Warmest wishes
from the Bayridge staff for a wonderful holiday!
School reopens on Monday, January 5th, 2004!
SPECIAL THANK
YOU
Several families at Holly Elementary will have a special
Christmas this year thanks to the Bayridge community.
Our classes were able to send many boxes filled with
Christmas presents to our sister school. Your
kindness will be greatly appreciated. Thank
you as well to everyone who contributed non-perishable
food items for the White Rock – South Surrey Food Bank.
IT’S ALMOST TIME TO REGISTER
FOR KINDERGARTEN
Children who will turn five before January 1,
2005, are eligible to begin school in September, 2004.
Registration will begin on Monday, January 19, 2004.
To register your child, visit our school office and
bring with you your child’s birth certificate, proof of
address, and if possible, your child’s record of
immunization and BC Care Card. NO
registrations will be taken before 8:00 a.m., Monday,
January 19.
GOING WEST
In January our former music teacher, Mr. Al Pichler,
will be returning to the school to begin work on our
school musical. Students in Kindergarten through grade
seven will be involved in this lively production. The
two evening performances are scheduled for February 11
and 12. There will also be an afternoon performance on
one of those two days.
FEES FOR
STUDENTS
From time to time during the year teachers arrange field
studies and special projects for their students. School
funding does not cover all costs and parents are asked
to make contributions towards these special events. No
child will miss out on an opportunity because of
financial difficulties. Teachers have been asked
to let parents know what costs to expect during the
year. As a group, the primary teachers have indicated
that costs for field studies and special projects will
not exceed $50.00.
FSA RESULTS
Last May students in grades four and seven completed the
Foundations/Skills/Assessments in the areas of reading,
writing and numeracy. Parents will receive information
specific to their child. Individual school, school
district and provincial results can be found on the
Ministry website:
Scooters,
Skateboards, Rollerblades and Bikes
Students are encouraged to
walk or wheel to school, but in the interest of safety,
their bikes, boards, blades and scooters are not to be
used on the school grounds before school, during school,
or after school (until 4:00). Students
on bikes and scooters must dismount outside the rail
fence on 142nd Street. Bicycles should be walked
to the rack by the lower grass field and scooters should
be folded up for storage in classrooms. Any
students wearing rollerblades should exchange them for
shoes at the rail fence. The rollerblades and
skateboards must be carried into classrooms.
Any students choosing to disregard these rules will lose
the privilege of having their bikes, scooters, and
skateboards at school.
Dogs on the
School Grounds
If your dog walks to or from school with you and your
children, please do not bring them onto the school
grounds. They may be tethered to the log fence if you
wish to walk your child to their classroom door. Some
of our students have been frightened by dogs, and they
should be able to feel confident instead of nervous when
approaching their school. Your co-operation is much
appreciated.
Parking
Concerns
Your cooperation with the new parking guidelines is
appreciated. Remember: If you are going to park your
car you are welcome to come into the lot and park at the
south end. You will be asked to keep your car in the
lot in the morning until 8:45 am, when the children are
safely inside the school. In the afternoon you are
welcome to come into the south end of the lot as well,
provided you park your car and remain in the lot until
approximately 2:45 pm.
