| Staff
and visitor identification
Our School District is working to ensure that schools
are safe places for students. A photo identification
program has been put into place for all district staff.
All schools have been provided with visitor nametags.
We want students to get used to the idea that any adult
they see in the school should be wearing a nametag. It
is one way of letting students know that the adult has
checked in at the office. Many of you are familiar
faces to most students however, we are making this
request of all parents. We appreciate your
co-operation.
Supervision of
Students
 | Mornings
Parents should be aware that supervision of
students on the playground does not begin until
8:30 a.m. For that reason, we ask that parents
refrain from sending their children to school
before that time, unless the students are
participating in a staff-supervised activity. Eg:
team practice.
|
|
 | Lunch time
Students should bring a lunch to school.
If your child is going home for lunch, a note is
required. We are not permitted to allow students
to leave the school grounds without
parent/guardian permission. If your child goes
home daily, one note may be written to cover the
whole year.
|
|
 | Afternoons
After school supervision on the playground ends at
2:45 p.m. In the interest of student safety, all
students should be on their way home by then,
unless they are participating in a staff-sponsored
activity, or a parent or other adult is
supervising them on the playground. |

Call Back Program
We have "Call Back" program in effect at Bayridge. It
is a key component to student safety. Each morning a
reason for each child's absence must be identified so
that no student is left unaccounted for. Before 8:50
a.m. if your child is absent you must call 604
531-8082 and tell the secretary your child's name,
division and reason for absence. You will be called at
home or at work if we do not hear from you.
Dogs on the
School Grounds
If your dog walks to or from school with you and your
children, please do not bring them onto the school
grounds. They may be tethered to the log fence if you
wish to walk your child to their classroom door. Some
of our students have been frightened by dogs, and they
should be able to feel confident instead of nervous when
approaching their school. Your co-operation is much
appreciated.
Traffic and
Parking Safety
To ensure the safety of our children please:
 | Have your children walk to school in groups.
The walking school bus model is the safest way to
get your children to school. |
|
 | If you must drive your children to and from
school, please take the time to approach the
school driving northbound on 142nd Street. This
allows your children to be dropped off or picked
up on the school side of the street so that they
do not have to cross 142nd Street.
|
|
 | If your child is in Grade 3 or above, please
do not arrive more than 15min early, as parked
cars are problematic. Do not ever park facing
oncoming traffic on the wrong side of the street. |
|
 | When children are waiting out front of the
school for their rides, parents can help the
situation by marshalling the children to
appropriate vehicles. Working together, parents
can monitor the children, stop them from walking
out between cars, and become aware of strange,
unknown vehicles in the area. |
|
 | Please do not park in the alcove in front of
the north end of the school. This area is for
pick-up and drop-off only. |
|
 | The parking lot should not be used pick-up or
drop-off. It is a very dangerous place for
children to walk. |
|
 | Keep fire gates clear at all times.
|
|
 | Do not stop in the no stopping zones in front
of the crosswalk. |
|
Emergency
Preparedness
We have an emergency preparedness kit for every child at
Bayridge. Each kt contains:
 | Lightstick |
|
 | Emergency Water (72 hour supply) |
|
 | Emergency Blanket |
|
 | Emergency Food Bars (72 hour supply) |
|
 | Sterile bandages |
|
 | Tissues |

School Closures
In the rare event that the school may be closed for an
unexpected reason (extreme weather conditions), it is
often difficult to get through to the office staff by
telephone. Announcements about school closures are made
on Radio Station CKNW - 980 on the AM dial. Tune in at
7:30 a.m. to hear the information you need.
